Answers

Q:
What is my free time at the pier for IPI cargo I’m clearing at POD?
A: China Shipping expects Customs entries to be filed and containers cleared by the time they are discharged from the vessel.  Not doing so can slow terminal operations and result in additional and unnecessary re-handling charges at the terminal.

Q:
Can urgent IPI containers be “hot listed?”
A: Yes.  If CSNA Intermodal is given enough advance notice, we can advise the terminal of the container’s urgency when we give them the vessel manifest.  If the terminal can set the container aside during discharge without interfering with its operations, they will.  This will not always be possible, but there is no harm in making a “hot list” request.

Q:
How long will a container dwell at POD before moving to the rail?
A: Some larger vessels might take 3-4 days to completely discharge.  Depending on volume, all IPI containers should be moved in land within 2 days of the vessel’s departure from the port.

Q:
I have an export load.  How do I return it to the rail?
A: Before a loaded export container can be returned to the rail, CSNA must set up the rail move with the rail road.  To do this, we need a Rail Billing Request submitted to us including the container number, booking number, accurate cargo weight, and seal number.  Usually the trucker submits this to us, but the shipper, forwarder, or supplier can do it just the same.

Q:
To whom do I send a Rail Billing Request?
A: For export loads; email to railbilling@csna.net or fax to 630-889-8189.  For empty containers being returned to the rail; email csna.empty@dia.us.com
or fax 866-224-2151

Q:
How far in advance can I submit a Rail Billing Request?
A: You can submit the rail billing as soon as you know the accurate cargo weight and the seal.  We ask for two hours to get the billing in place, but it rarely takes that long.

Q:
Can I pre-bill a container?
A: No.  CSNA does not accept pre-billing.  An accurate weight and seal are required at the time rail billing is requested.

Q:
I requested empty rail billing on a container, but now I’ve decided to street turn it for an export load or to return it to the depot.  What do I need to do?
A: Contact the party you sent the Rail Billing Request to, and advise them you are no longer returning the container to the rail.  The rail billing will be cancelled.  If the empty rail billing is left in place, there is a danger that when the container is returned full for export, it will move under the empty billing to a port other than the port the booking is sailing from.  Approval for the street turn must also be given in advance of loading by the regional equipment office.

Q:
How do I invoice China Shipping for a chassis split?
A: An original invoice listing container and chassis number should be sent to the regional equipment office within 60 days of the chassis movement.  Copies of all interchanges must be attached.

Q:
What is the earliest date I can pick up equipment for my booking?
A: Normally earliest pick up is 5 days before the cut-off listed on your booking confirmation.

Q:
Our arrival notice is being sent to the wrong office/number.  How do I change this?
A: Please contact Partnersetup@csna.net to provide the proper information.

Q:
I am a trucker who would like to do business with China Shipping.  What do I need to do to set up an interchange?
A: Contact UIIA at 877/438-8442.

Q:
I need EDI (electronic data interchange) cargo tracking, invoicing or other functions.  How do I get EDI data?  What EDI transactions are available?
A: China Shipping offers ANSI X12 4010 format EDI 315 Cargo Tracking, EDI 310 Freight Invoicing and 301 Booking Confirmations (for US Exports) to our contract partners. In addition, inbound EDI booking (300), booking confirmation (301) and bill of lading instruction entry (304) are available for qualified service contract customers through GTNexus Portal for import cargo from China.
